Jordan

Amman

Amman’s elevated setting brings hot, mostly dry summers and cool winters with rain and occasional wintry weather. Spring and autumn usually make outdoor ruins more comfortable. Carry water and sun protection for exposed sites, and keep a layer for cooler evenings.

Ankara

The inland capital has cold winters, sometimes with snow and ice, and hot, comparatively dry summers. May and September often suit city walks; spring showers and cool evenings still call for layers.

Antalya

Antalya has hot, mostly dry summers and mild, wetter winters. April–May and October suit city walks; summer outings need shade breaks, and winter rain can make old-town paving slippery.

Egypt

Aswan

Aswan has an extremely dry desert climate. Summer afternoons are intensely hot; winter offers warm sightseeing days with cooler nights. Rare rain does not remove the need to check the forecast, especially before a boat outing.

Athens

Hot, usually dry summers and milder, wetter winters suit breathable clothes, sun protection and a separate cool-season layer. Exposed marble paths amplify the heat. Monthly values are calculated from NASA POWER MERRA-2 gridded daily data for 1991–2020 at the city coordinates. They represent a regional model cell, not a city weather station. Street shade, coastal exposure, elevation and urban warmth can differ. Climate averages do not predict an individual trip.

Philippines

Baguio

December–March offers a useful balance of much lower rainfall and mild walking weather. January and February have especially cool nights; March is a little warmer. May–October needs serious rain planning, with the heaviest historical rainfall in July and August. Check mountain-road and weather warnings before travel.

The little things worth knowing

Historic brick façade along an Aalborg street

A first weekend in Aalborg

Give Aalborg one waterfront-and-city day, then choose art or archaeology for the second. That keeps the fjord crossing and museum openings from becoming last-minute surprises.

Aalborg: Kunsten, Kildeparken and a tower choice

Choose Kunsten for art and Alvar Aalto’s architecture, with a park pause on the approach. Aalborg Tower is a separate seasonal viewpoint, so check it before making the climb the purpose of your day.

A serene sunset over Aalborg harbor with silhouetted sailing ships against a vibrant sky.

Aalborg: Lindholm Høje as a separate half-day

Lindholm Høje lies across the fjord from central Aalborg. Give its stone settings and museum a separate half-day, with the indoor opening calendar checked before you travel.

Aalborg: the older centre and a named pub stop

Use Aalborg’s old streets for a compact walk between the centre and fjord. A specific pub stop can make a useful finish, but the architecture and public streets remain the route’s main purpose.

Industrial waterfront and silos reflected in Aalborg’s Limfjord

Aalborg: Utzon Center and the Limfjord waterfront

Aalborg’s waterfront lets you compare a working fjord city with newer cultural buildings. Use the Utzon Center as the main interior, then keep the outdoor route flexible in wind.
